This original artwork was on a 16"x20" canvas. It was created during the month of June to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus as well as to commemorate the USA having 250 years of independence.
There is so much meaning behind this design.
Let's start with the Stripes. I chose to alternate both the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart to illustrate and represent each stripe. The stripes are very intentional to look like blood shed. It was by Jesus's blood/stripes we were saved. We received independence and continue to have freedom due to the many Americans whose blood was shed. The Sacred Heart is a reminder who keeps us protected and the Immaculate Heart is a reminder that it is up to us to say "Yes", just as the Virgin Mary did to God's will for our lives and helping us be inspired to live and grow in virtue.
Now to the Roses. The white roses take the place of the stars on the American flag, symbolizing each state while also representing hope, renewal, and the possibility of new life. Together, they reflect the prayer that every state may continue to flourish under God's grace.
A little history: On June 11, 2026 the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), consecrated our country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This historic, first-of-its-kind spiritual act occurred in Orlando, Florida, in honor of the nation's 250th anniversary. President Trump called the spiritual dedication "a powerful moment in our national story and a poignant reminder that America has always been guided by the loving hand of God".
May we always remember that we are a country united, "United Hearts of America"; one nation under God!
